Chief of Police

Joseph P. Aita was appointed Chief of the San Pablo Police Department in December 2005. He has served over thirty years with the San Pablo Police Department, promoting to the rank of Commander in 1986. During his tenure he served as Commander of the Patrol Division, Investigations Division, Special Investigations Unit, and Support Services Division.

Chief Aita is a past graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of California, Sacramento. He is also an ethics and professionalism instructor for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Police Academy and a P.O.S.T. Certified Emergency and Tactical Response Instructor.

Chief Aita is a member of the Contra Costa County Chief’s Association and the West County Chief’s Committee. This committee also supervises the highly effective West County Narcotic Enforcement Team (West-Net) and provides oversight for law enforcement related issues and programs in West County.
